CNC Router Maintenance Tips for New Owners | Mantech UK

Whether you’re completely new to CNC or have just taken delivery of your first Mantech CNC Router, there’s one thing you need to know from the start—regular maintenance is just as important as learning your software or choosing the right tooling.

We’ve created a practical video guide (watch above) that walks you through the key areas of preventative maintenance for your CNC Router. This is based on real-world experience and genuine components used across our machine range.

Why Maintenance Matters

CNC Routers are high-performance machines, and just like any precision tool, they need a little care to perform at their best. Ignoring basic checks can lead to poor cut quality, wasted materials, or even long-term damage. But with just a few minutes of care each week, you can avoid costly surprises and keep your machine cutting clean and true.

What’s Covered in the Video?

Here’s a quick summary of what you’ll learn in the video:

1. Cutters & Collets

These are the heart of your cutting system. Keeping them clean and sharp ensures clean cuts and reduces the risk of breakages.

2. Tool Cones & Holders (ATC models only)

Dirty cones can cause misalignment—clean them regularly to protect your spindle and ensure tool precision.

3. Sacrificial Board Care

Your cutting surface matters. A worn or uneven board can affect vacuum hold and cut depth accuracy.

4. Dust Hood & Bristles

Good extraction keeps your workspace safe and your machine running efficiently. Check for bristle damage or wear.

5. Vacuum Pump & Filters

Secure material hold is essential. Check for air leaks, dirty filters, or poor suction before each job.

6. Dust Collector Maintenance

Keep bags below 75% full and check hoses for clogs to maintain airflow and protect your machine.

7. Compressed Air Systems (if fitted)

For machines with pneumatic ATC or clamps, check fittings and drain moisture regularly to avoid downtime.

8. Cleaning Your Machine

Dust and chips build up fast—wipe down linear rails and moving parts after each session to avoid wear.

9. Lubrication

Check and top up your oil tank weekly. Lubrication is crucial to reduce friction and extend the life of moving components.

Quick Routine = Long-Term Results

A CNC Router that’s well-maintained will deliver consistent performance, better edge finishes, and longer component life. It doesn’t take long—but it makes all the difference.

At Mantech, we design our routers with ease of maintenance in mind. Whether you’re running the Apollo range, custom platforms, or an ATC machine, you’ll find access and upkeep simple and straightforward.
